I think our problem is similar to the one below but as it is a different error I will start a new thread and hopefully we can resolve both issues:

Our other DCs are down but this one holds the FSMO roles - there is a registry setting to confirm the domain is valid but I cannot remember what it is or where to find it!!! 😣 😣
