Connecting to a Windows 8 machine across RDC gateway we had this error:

An authentication error has occurred. The Local Security Authority cannot be contacted

I think we had a duplicate machine name as the computer account appeared to be disabled which presumably was an identical computer name leaving the domain after some sort of cloning activity etc.

We removed the machine from the domain and re-added in order to solve this problem.
