In BIOS when trying to add UEFI I get 'File system not found!'

Why can't I just ass the disk as a UEFI and install the partition afterwards?
Recycling Computers  is my hobby so if you have any old PCs or Macs..

Right so I need to boot off of something with a UEFI partition already there which means having a boot device present rather than just letting Windows make one.
