Hi,

We have just replaced what appeared to be some bad memory in a Dell R730 but now the system is stuck on 'configuring memory' at boot up before anything happens - it is the first second of power up.

We have tried disconnecting power and holding the power button for 15 seconds

We have tried the escape key, but the keyboard does not even appear to be live.

I suppose we will have to remove all of the new RAM and start filling it gradually and seeing if the system will boot as we go??

Well it was one of the DIMMs that was causing the problem. It was getting to post and complaining but had obviously deteriorated since then and was preventing boot completely.

The DIMM was replaced and the problem is gone.

I just had to find it by trial and error, booting the system with half the DIMMS then a quarter, etc,
