Why do I get such wildly different statistics from each statistics system for my websites?

Statcounter might say 1500 views, analytics might say 900 and adwords 7000? How can this be? How can adwords think that over seven times as many people visited the website as analytics when surely they get the same data from the same source?

What is going on?
