Why is Windows 10 so crap?

On Windows XP I could just put the DVD (CD actually) in, press enter and press R and it would recover the Windows install keeping all of the registry and hardware sttings.

Now the whole thing is a disaster.

Every file version has to be the same or SFC just falls over.

How can I recovery a 0xc000021a error without a reinstall?
Recycling Computers  is my hobby so if you have any old PCs or Macs..
