We have an issue with an internal autodiscover on an Exchange 2007 system whereby when a user account is being configured the Outlook client begins the autodiscover but ceases after the fist tick and adds =SMTP:recipient@domain.suffix to the email address and doesn't underline the email address.

If you replace the server url with the IP address and click check name then it will underline.

It makes no difference if you use the netBIOS or full internal DNS name.

What part of the autodiscover DNS is broken do you think?
