We are seeing this on a RAID 5 VD so presumably it is not a physical issue, but a controller error??

The thin provisioning (in other words, less communication with the system ) used on this disk allows for a larger partition than there is space on the volume. Add more space or decrease partition size, as the disk is simply saying: 'no room, no room!'
