To boot into the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) on Windows 11, you can use several methods depending on whether you can still access your desktop or not.
From within Windows (Best for most users)
Settings Menu: Go to Start > Settings > System > Recovery. Under "Advanced startup," click the Restart now button.
Shift + Restart Shortcut: Click the Start button, select the Power icon, then hold down the Shift key on your keyboard while clicking Restart.
Command Prompt: Open Command Prompt as an administrator and type shutdown /r /o /f /t 00, then press Enter. Your PC will immediately restart into the recovery menu.
From the Sign-in/Lock Screen
If you are stuck at the login screen, click the Power icon in the bottom-right corner. Hold the Shift key and select Restart.
If Windows won't boot (Automatic Repair)
Force Restart Method: Turn on your PC. As soon as you see the Windows or manufacturer logo, press and hold the Power button for 10 seconds to force a shutdown. Repeat this three times. On the third or fourth attempt, Windows will enter "Automatic Repair" mode, where you can select Advanced options to reach WinRE.
Using External Media
Recovery Drive or Installation USB: Insert a Windows 11 installation USB or a previously created recovery drive. Boot from the USB (usually by tapping F12, F11, or Esc during startup), select your language, and click Repair your computer at the bottom-left of the setup screen.
Once in WinRE, you can access tools like Startup Repair, System Restore, or Command Prompt by selecting Troubleshoot > Advanced options.
