If you have been into [Windows Button] + R and typed msconfig and opened the msconfig app on the 'services' pane: Tick the 'Hide all Microsoft services' box and click the Disable all button. Click apply. Now open a Windows Folder and right click on the 'This PC' icon and choose Properties: You will see the 'System' page from Control Panel: You want to click the Advanced System Settings button marked above. Now, once you have confirmed administrative rights, or entered the administrative credentials, on the next screen, select the Settings button in the top section, performance: On the next page, go to the 'advanced' tab: And select the Change button under the Virtual Memory section. Click to select the No paging file option, and then click the Set button to make it so. Now choose OK/Close in all of the boxes and restart the PC. See if this makes an improvement.

Press [Windows Button] + R for RUN Enter services.msc and press [Enter] Find Windows Update and double click: Change the start-up type to disabled, using the drop-down list. Click Apply Restart the PC. Now when restarted, go to c:\windows\SoftwareDistribution Highlight the Downloads folder and hold down the [Shift] key and press [Delete] This will permanently delete the downloads folder rather than sending it to the Recycle Bin Now go back to the services screen, just as you did before, using the above instructions and find the same service again. Change the start-up back to Automatic and press Apply Now click Start It will download some updates again, but after that it should calm down. If it does not, go back to the beginning of this post and disable the Windows Update service permanently (this is a dangerous choice and should only be used as a last resort.)

The Windows Update part solved it, the paging file thing made no difference, even putting it on another disk. Many thanks for your help, will recommend.
