We found the best thing to do with the RDS server that was crashing Excel and Office a lot , was to increase resource allotted to te server. In this case we doubled RAM and CPUs on the virtual host, and 95% of the crashes evaporated. We still get the occasional issue, but that tends to be from people with two hundred Windows left open for eight yers.

There are a lot of issues with updates and Office 365 on an RDS server - we find that a restart has to be undertaken about once a fortnight to keep from slowing. If you can spread out disk load, regardless of whether it is s VM or not, that really does help too, especially. Especially the page file and temp file areas.
